The Art League of Long Island

Lt. Colonel Joseph J. Fenty, Jr., was a patriot who gave his life for his country. He was a brother and mentor to the soldiers he commanded. On May 5, 2006, he and nine soldiers were killed while serving in the Kunar province in Afghanistan when a CH-47 Chinook helicopter crashed during combat operations.

In life, he was a loving husband and son who hailed from Long Island. He attended Connetquot High School where he lettered in wrestling and cross country.

He also was a proud supporter of the arts and recognized how it nurtured the mind and the soul.

The Joseph J. Fenty Memorial Scholarship
will award two returning combat veterans currently living or originally from Long Island with a formal art education.
