About the Role
Salenger, Sack, Kimmel & Bavaro, LLP, a prestigious plaintiff personal injury and medical malpractice law firm is seeking a dynamic, smart and enthusiastic Legal Assistant for our Woodbury, NY location. Over the last forty years, SSKB has won over a half billion dollars in verdicts and settlements for plaintiffs seeking justice in personal injury and medical malpractice cases. Core Responsibilities
- Communicate and follow up with our clients regularly and as necessary.
- Prepare correspondence and follow up as necessary, i.e., requesting policy limits, Affidavits of No Access.
- File No-Fault and SUM (Supplemental Underinsured Motorist) forms with insurance carriers.
- Request and coordinate the follow up of all steps to ensure receipt of all necessary records and documents. This includes medical records, emergency medical service reports, police reports, collateral source records, workers compensation records, employment records, income records, lost earnings statements, IRS records, education records, criminal court transcripts, Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) hearing transcripts, client statement to carrier, certified weather reports 911 transcripts, witness reports, narrative reports etc.
- Contact, via telephone or in writing, various parties (insurance carriers, medical facilities, clients, government agencies etc.,) as it relates to the request of all records and documents listed above.
- Arrange No-Fault Independent Medical Examinations (IME’s) with clients and follow up on IME reports.
- Submit client expenses for reimbursement to carrier.
- Organize and maintain client’s files in Trial Works.
- Serve (pre-lawsuit) settlement packages to defendants, copying all carriers. Scan package documents into Trial Works.
- Follow up to receive closing statement as part of settlement process.
- Process Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) Requests
- Assist, as necessary, with the confirmation of daily court appearances and depositions.
- Ensure case related expenses are reflected in the case management system and notify Bookkeeper of credit card purchases. Submit invoices to Bookkeeper for case related expenses.
- Scan records and / or documents and upload to case management system.
- Make and file copies internally of all documents that are sent out of the office.
- Update case management system on all case related activities.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned and/or required.
Requirements
- Previous administrative experience in the personal injury legal field;
- Strong computer skills i.e., ability to navigate case management software, intermediate proficiency with Word. Good typing skills.
- Two years of experience in the above responsibilities at a plaintiff personal injury / medical malpractice law firm.

Hourly Pay: $25 + (commensurate with experience).
