A 48-year-old married father of three, employed as a Building Supply Manager in Suffolk County, NY, tragically lost his life due to medical oversight. During an x-ray, a suspicious lesion was detected in his lung, prompting further investigation.
Despite a follow-up CAT Scan providing more detail about the lesion, his treating doctors opted for follow-up studies instead of a biopsy. Over several years, the lesion was monitored, but no decisive action was taken. Subsequently, a PET scan was conducted, which did not definitively rule out cancer. However, no additional testing, such as a biopsy or VATS procedure, was ordered to confirm or rule out cancer.
Experts later determined that these additional studies were warranted, and the failure to conduct them amounted to medical malpractice. Unfortunately, the undiagnosed cancer progressed, metastasizing to the brain and ultimately leading to his untimely death.
