In the aftermath of witnessing an accident involving a marked police car and a civilian vehicle at a Brooklyn intersection, a 28-year-old Hispanic male, and Brooklyn resident with no criminal history, approached an officer to provide his account of the incident.
Despite his cooperation, the officer refused to accept his statement and demanded he leave the scene. When the individual declined, the officer proceeded to assault him, resulting in a violent altercation that left the victim with permanent blindness in one eye.
Although he was initially arrested for disorderly conduct, the charges were later dropped. Subsequently, at trial, the jury awarded the victim $8.2 million in recognition of the injuries sustained due to police brutality.
