John Zervopoulos is a litigator focused on catastrophic personal injury cases. He was recognized by his peers by being selected to Super Lawyers for numerous years. Within his personal injury practice, John has an extensive background in maritime law, products liability, construction accidents, medical malpractice, and civil rights violations.
John bases his practice on a lifetime of fighting for the little guy. The son of Greek immigrants, John experienced the pain of being the odd kid. This feeling cultivated a desire to stand up to bullies. “We represent many people who don’t have a voice. They can’t achieve what they are entitled to by standing up for themselves because they don’t have the tools. It’s a challenge to stand up against the insurance companies–they are the grown up schoolyard bullies. That’s what fuels my passion for my job.”
John credits his love of life and close-knit family for the ability to connect on a personal level with the firm’s clients. “Each and every case is unique and I treat them all the same way. Every story is a sad story, often with a death or life-changing injury. It’s shameful that even with a death, the insurance companies try to assign blame.” In one such case, John helped a family win their case after losing a parent and siblings in a fire. “I am still in contact with the surviving children as they continue to grow up. They still call me for advice in other matters of their lives. I feel proud that I was able to make a difference and impact their lives for the better.”
Graduating cum laude from Long Island University with a degree in Psychology, John has a particular understanding of the stress caused by trauma. “Often times clients are injured, can’t work, have bills to pay, and a family to support. We are there to help them throughout the difficult times until the end result has been achieved.”
John joined the firm as an intern while still at Hofstra Law School. Impressed with his work ethic and passion for the law, the firm hired John as an associate upon graduating. From the start, John knew he had found his calling, and the law firm at which to build his career. He soon was elevated to partner.
John is very active with several organizations and associations and within his own community. He serves as an elected officer to the Hellenic Lawyers Association of New York, board member of Nassau-Suffolk Trial Lawyers Association and volunteers as an Arbitrator for Queens County Civil Court. Mr. Zervopoulos frequently lectures for professional organizations throughout New York State, proudly mentors law students and serves as an Adjunct Professor at Hofstra Law School where he shares his knowledge and expertise with future legal professionals.
